A young boy reportedly shot a massive fishing dart into his 14-year-old friend's brain – and he miraculously survived.

The lad, named Chayathorn, was thought to be fishing with a pal in Nakhon Ratchasima province, northeastern Thailand, when he either accidentally shot himself with the dart, or the friend mistakenly fired it at him.

Either way, doctors were greeted with the scene of the schoolboy with the 30cm metal rod embedded into his forehead, and piercing his brain.

Shocking X-ray images made public by the hospital show the large rod deeply embedded into the boy's skull, and doctors working to save his life.

Surgeons at Chakkarat Hospital were able to remove the exposed part of the fishing implement, before sending the boy for a scan to plan away to get the part in his brain out safely.

According to the doctor, via Thaiger, the dart had penetrated deep into his brain.

Reports suggest that the interior part of the dart was removed today (November 20) and that the boy remains under close supervision.

Doctors are worried that disease might spread internally from the unclean metal.

Officials are focussed on trying to figure out what happened in the lead up to the dart being discharged. One Thai journalist wrote on Facebook that the boy dropped the dart gun to the ground and it shot him in the forehead.

Last year, a Thai man in the eastern province of Rayong accidentally shot himself in the face with a harpoon and a similar thing happened in 2019 in the Isaan province of Sa Kaeo when a bloke shot a metre-long fishing dart into his left eye.
