A picturesque seaside town has a bad habit with strip club promoters pestering visitors up to 10 times per stroll through town.
The city of Gdansk on the northern coast of Poland is a picturesque place, all tall terraces and squares with seats spilling into them from its bars and restaurants. But beneath the beauty and cobbled streets, the city hides a seedier side.
Tourists have claimed to have been pestered by “pushy pimps” keen to get punters into their bars. The Baltic city has a lot going for it like the Old Town and its Hanseatic houses – but the area is also home to a number of strip clubs.

This might sound like a perfect trip for some, but for most tourists, the pushy tactics of those running the business have left them with a bad taste in their mouths. Normally sights you expect to see more on party tourism trips, Gdansk is not a clear entry on the lads' holiday road map.
Despite all that this beautiful settlement on the banks of the Motława River has to offer, a number of reviews on Tripadvisor paint the city in a bad light. “It’s a beautiful place with nice restaurants and all but these maggots agents from the criminal establishment called strip clubs just never leave you alone,” one person wrote. “After typical walk through old town at least 8-10 agents bug you…it’s very annoying and puts a black cloud over my visit."
A four-star review read: “Only annoying thing is all the people asking you to go to strip clubs. Don't go there, and stay away from the 'Long Market' street after 20:00. During the daytime this is perfect.”

One extreme review, which gave a five-star rating and no evidence for its shocking claims, included a passage that reads: “My only complaint? Be extremely careful at night. Old Town in and around the Long Market is full of casinos, strip clubs, and street prostitutes run by Polish mafia. Hustlers on the street, both male and female, are very aggressive and target men, both Poles and tourists.
“They will follow you, harassing you and even grabbing your arm in a flirtatious manner. If you are stupid enough to follow them to a bar or club, you will likely be drugged, have your cash stolen and your credit cards charged you US$5,000 (£3,960) for drinks.”
The Daily Star has not been able to verify whether there is truth behind these claims.
