Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle were told to "cosplay" as the late Princess Diana, a bombshell royal book claims.
Omid Scobie's Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival hit shelves on Tuesday (November 28) and was filled with controversial claims about the Firm.
The Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Sussex were both frequently mentioned in the new release, and in one particularly shocking claim Scobie said the Palace had attempted to "shamelessly leverage" Diana's popularity by encouraging the pair to emulate her style.

"Diana cosplay has become a royal staple," Scobie wrote. He added outfit decisions were "always discussed" with Prince Harry and Prince William.
He said it was hoped that by paying tribute to the late People's Princess, "some of Diana's shine [would] rub off" on the Duke of Sussex and Prince of Wales' wives. Not only have the pair frequently worn outfits inspired by their late mother-in-law, they've both been seen sporting jewellery from her collection, reports People.
Elsewhere in the book Scobie claimed William and Charles' relationship had become fraught over the years thanks to their different attitudes to the monarchy. The author reckons the Prince of Wales "represents the monarchy's true next stage," while his dad is the "bridge to get there."
An insider told Scobie Charles is governed by his "head and his heart," while William is "colder" than his dad. "He just wants to get the job done and has no problem taking prisoners along the way," they said.

A more X-rated allegation saw Scobie claim Queen Camilla had a "raunchy and randy" past, the Daily Star previously reported. "Camilla might not have stood on the barricades in the sixties, but she did enjoy the sexual freedoms ushered in by that radical generation," he wrote.
"Over the years, some who knew Camilla during this time have told various authors and journalists that the young Ms. Shand was known for being 'raunchy and randy' and the sort to 'throw her knickers on the table.'"
Camilla's alleged sexual notoriety was one of a number of reasons she was initially rejected by the Firm as a potential wife for Charles, Scobie claimed. This came "alongside the fact she was a 'commoner' (the air around her family home not rarefied enough) and an 'experienced woman' (read: not a virgin)," the author added.
Charles would later marry "Palace-approved" Diana, while Camilla tied the knot with Andrew Parker Bowles, who had previously enjoyed a fling with Charles' sister, Princess Anne. However the would-be king and queen clearly couldn't resist one another and soon struck up an affair. They later married in 2005 after divorcing their respective spouses.
The Daily Star has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.
