Rachel Reeves put on spot over David Lammy Palestine fringe event
Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves’s obsession with Liz Truss has been mocked by a former senior Downing Street adviser.
Watching the speech at the Labour Party conference by the woman who hopes to be taking control of the Treasury next year, the senior Conservative suggested: “Liz Truss appears to be living rent-free in Rachel Reeves’s head.”
In total the woman in charge of Labour’s economic strategy to raise taxes and spending even higher mentioned Truss four times in her speech.
In comparison, she only mentioned the name of the party leader Sir Keir Starmer once.
And she also obsessed with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak who she demanded denounced the Truss plans.

Ms Truss’s 49-day government collapsed this time last year because of the revolt against her mini-budget by Tory MPs and fluctuations in the markets.
But the former Prime Minister has made a comeback and last week in the Tory conference in Manchester hundreds queued up to hear her “axe the tax” pro-growth speech at the “growth rally”.
Polling by Redfield and Wilton has also revealed that the public backed most of the measures she tried to introduce in the mini-budget with the exception of ones targeting the wealthy such as uncapping bankers’ bonuses.
The former Prime Minister is now seen as a pivotal figure in helping decide who the next Tory leader will be.
And the Conservative conference was dominated by senior figures including Dame Priti Patel, Lord Frost and Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg demanding tax cuts.
So far 33 Conservative MPs have signed a pledge warning the government they will vote down any more tax rises.

The change of mood at the Tory conference appeared to have irked Ms Reeves who focussed her attacks more on Ms Truss than Mr Sunak.
Ms Reeves appeared to suggest the former Prime Minister is “an extremist” who “should be kicked out of the party”.
She said: “Liz Truss might be out of Downing Street but she is still leading the Conservative Party.”
Ms Reeves went on: “Rishi Sunak had the chance to denounce the politics and policies of Liz Truss. To make clear that he would never repeat her mistakes. But he didn’t.”
Later she added: “Never again will we allow a repeat of the devastation Liz Truss and the Tory Party have inflicted on family finances.”
