Woman killed after husband accidently reversed over her after church drop-off

A woman has been killed in a freak accident after a driver accidentally reversed over her following a drop-off at a church.

The unnamed 70-year-old woman had been dropped off at Castle Hill Baptist Church in Sydney, Australia, where she was then struck and killed by the driver who dropped her off.

Said driver, believed to be the woman's husband and also 70-years-old, had accidentally reversed over the woman at 9.30am on Monday (March 20).

The 70-year-old woman was struck by the vehicle outside the church where she led a Bible studies group, with attending emergency services unable to revive her in a tragic scene.

An unnamed driver was taken to Westmead Hospital for mandatory testing, but was not injured.

Pastor Ian Deane has since described the incident as "extremely tragic" and spoke on the horrifying accident with 7News.

He said: "She's been an active member of the church and the person who witnessed it is also an active member of the church, it’s just tragic… just incredibly sad."

No charges have been presented against the unnamed 70-year-old man, who had struck the woman with the vehicle after dropping her off at the church.

A crime scene was established following the death, with police on hand and subsequently launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

New South Wales emergency services were also on hand at the scene but were unable to revive the woman who had been reversed over by a man believed to be her husband.

Another member of the church is said to have witnessed the horrifying incident, Daily Mail reported, with other witnesses urged to contact investigating officers.

Pictures from the scene showed a white car draped with a white tarp and police presence in the area of Castle Hill, a suburb in the north west of Sydney in New South Wales.
