Sunny and warm along the Front Range, snow creeping into the mountains.

Warm, sunny weather, with low humidity and gusty winds will raise wildfire concerns in the region on Saturday, but a cold front packing some moisture is on the way.

In Denver, skies will be sunny on Saturday and the high temperature will climb to about 78 degrees, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Warm and very dry conditions are forecast for the Front Range and the Eastern Plains, elevating critical fire weather conditions on Saturday afternoon, the weather service said.

In the mountains, snow showers will increase from west to east on Saturday night, with heavy snow expected tonight in western Jackson County including on Rabbit Ears Pass.

On Sunday in Denver skies will be mostly sunny but there’s a 40% chance of afternoon showers, the weather service said. The high temperature will be near 65 degrees and winds could gust up to about 37 mph.

Snow is expected in the northern and central mountains across higher terrains on Sunday into Monday, with the Park Range receiving up to 12 inches of snow. Front Range mountains could receive up to 8 inches of snow in some areas, the weather service said. Snow fall rates on Sunday morning could be up to 2 inches per hour along higher mountain terrains.

Strong winds are in the forecast across the plains, especially in Elbert and Lincoln counties, on Sunday with gusts up to 55 mph. Travel along Interstate 70 could be impacted by the windy weather, with reduced visibility in some areas because of wind blown dirt.

In Denver on Sunday night, rain showers before 10 p.m. may turn into snow showers between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., the weather service said. Overnight skies in the city will be mostly cloudy and the low temperature will be around 32 degrees. Winds will gust to about 28 mph and there’s a 40% chance of precipitation. There will be little, if any, snow accumulation.

On Monday in Denver there’s a 30% chance of snow showers before 7 a.m., the weather service said. Skies will be mostly sunny and high temperature will be near 51 degrees. Skies overnight on Monday will be mostly clear and the low will be about 34 degrees.

For the region, dry and cooler weather is expected early next week, with only a few mountain snow showers in the forecast.
