Royals were uninterested in Meghan and Harry soap opera biography

The Royal Family remained tight-lipped as the Sussexes' unofficial biography Finding Freedom created a stir with its publication in 2020.

According to a senior royal source, the palace was keen to step back from the “soap opera” surrounding Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

After "Megxit" was announced, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with baby Archie left the UK to "carve out a progressive new role" and become "financially independent" in North America.

After spending the earlier part of the year in Canada, they moved to Los Angeles.

They were said to be looking forward to the publication of a tell-all biography that August which claimed to reveal the “true story” of the royal split.

This included intimate details of an alleged rift with the Prince William and Kate Middleton, with reports of a split between Harry and William.

While Finding Freedom was said to have been given the Sussexes’ blessing, the rest of the Firm remained silent about any revelations the book contained.

At the time, a senior palace source told The Sunday Times: “The rest of the Royal Family will not be telling their side of the story.

"They feel that in this new world, people are more interested in seeing the family support frontline workers than reading about their internal politics.

“It was a soap opera. Everyone knows the narrative that’s coming. The feeling is that drama and everything that comes with it has left. Let the rest of the royal family get on with it.”

The biography about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry promised to "reveal unknown details", according to its authors, the journalists Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.

The description read: " Finding Freedom is an honest, up-close, and disarming portrait of a confident, influential, and forward-thinking couple who are unafraid to break with tradition, determined to create a new path away from the spotlight, and dedicated to building a humanitarian legacy that will make a profound difference in the world."
