Prince Philips nickname that only friends and staff could call him

Prince Philip had a nickname that only his close staff and friends could call him, according to a leading historian.

Adrian Tinniswood, author of Behind the Throne: A Domestic History of the British Royal Household, lifted the lid on Prince Philip's exclusive nickname.

Friends and close staff would call the Duke of Edinburgh "P.P" – a shortening of Prince Philip.

And according to Tinniswood, P.P was the Royal staff's favourite member in The Firm.

The Crown actor Matt Smith told Variety : "If you’ve talked to any of the staff, Philip’s the one they all love really.

"I think more than a lot of them, he’s a bit more of a man of the people. The royal protocol hasn’t dogged him in quite the same way his whole life and there’s a sort of rebellion in him and a naughtiness and a cheekiness.

"I think he’s quite affable and open by all accounts with the staff. They all love him.”

Prince Philip was reportedly “spitting blood” after finding out that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wanted to leave the Royal Family and told an aide “we were wrong about her all along”, a royal author has claimed.

According to Christopher Andersen, author of Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan , the late Duke of Edinburgh went straight to the Queen to express his “anger”.

He was said to have been furious over the fact that the couple made the announcement without informing senior royals first.

In the book, the aide revealed Philip had no knowledge of social media app Instagram but was “furious, deeply hurt, spitting blood” when he learned of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s joint announcement.

According to the aide, Philip shouted “this shows a complete lack of respect” as he told the Queen of his anger.

The book also claims both Philip and his son Charles had a warm relationship with Meghan but their view eventually changed.

Andersen wrote the senior royals now viewed Meghan as a twenty-first-century Wallis Simpson – the American socialite who married the Duke of Windsor, former King Edward VIII after he abdicated in order to be with her more than 80 years ago.

Philip then confided in one of his closest aides that: “It appears as if, we were wrong about her all along.”
