Prince Charles video calls Harry and is desperate to see his grandchildren

Prince Charles is "desperate" to see his grandchildren after having several "enjoyable" video calls with Prince Harry, according to a royal source.

Charles, 73, has made it clear in the calls that he hopes to spend some quality time with Harry's two-year-old son Archie and seven-month-old baby daughter Lilibet.

For around eight months it has recently been reported that the pair were not on good speaking terms and had hit rock bottom.

During Harry and wife Meghan's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, he claimed his dad had cut him off financially and wasn't taking his calls.

However, it has now been revealed that the relationship between the The Prince of Wales and his son has been on a new "journey of rediscovery."

A source close to Charles told The Mirror: “The Prince of Wales has spoken to his son frequently in recent months.

"He loves him very much, as he does both his children, and he looks forward to them being able to spend time together in the near future.”

Charles has praised Harry for his work on the environment by mentioning him in a recent essay in Newsweek.

The Prince of Wales reached out to Harry and his family in the lead up to Christmas in a hope to heal a rift by asking them to stay with him when they next come to visit the UK.

Harry and Meghan quit their royal family roles and moved to the US in January 2020.

Harry has now said that it is "too great a personal risk" to return to the UK due to the lack of security.

The source continued: “The Prince of Wales has been saddened that he hasn’t had the opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren, which he really does miss.

“He is a fantastic grandfather and loves playing the role immensely and it’s certainly fair to say he feels there is something missing from his life without the ability to get to know Harry’s children."

The future heir made the gesture for Harry's family to stay with him whenever "whenever they come home."

The source added: “In the meantime there has been a series of good natured and enjoyable calls between them all which is something the prince very much looks forward to."
