The news has led CN Wire to tweet: “Iran navy fends off attack on oil tanker in Gulf of Aden.” The attack comes after the Iranian navy has started to escort the nation’s oil tankers. Earlier this week the commander of Iran’s Navy claimed that Iranian oil tankers for Lebanon were accompanied by the country’s navy.

The Iranian tankers were being sent to Syria to be later transferred to Lebanon.

Hezbollah has warned that any shipments of Iranian oil headed for Lebanon is considered “Lebanese territory”.

Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah warned before the first ship departed Iran that “from the moment the Iranian ship sails, Hezbollah will consider it Lebanese territory.”
