With the start of the Major League Baseball season postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, we here at The Denver Post took a look at how the Rockies would fare in MLB The Show 20 on PlayStation 4. We will have a story for every game that had been scheduled until real-life baseball returns. Here’s a look at the virtual Rockies’ preseason preview. Entering Saturday’s game, the Rockies were 66-31.
It took eight pitchers and 15 innings as the Rockies lost a marathon to the Braves, 6-5, on Saturday at Coors Field.
The two teams battled to a 2-2 tied after nine innings. In the top of the 11th, Atlanta took a 5-2 lead capped off by a two-run homer by all-star Freddie Freeman.
The Rockies fought their way back in the bottom of the inning. With two on and their backs to the wall, first baseman Daniel Murphy crushed a three-run home run to tie it up.
And on they marched into the 15th when former Colorado utilityman Charlie Culberson hit a solo shot off of his old team. The Rockies could not answer back.
Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela finished the day giving up two runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. Closer Scott Oberg (1-2) picked up the loss.
Colorado (66-32) has a 9 1/2-game lead over the Dodgers (57-42) for first place in the National League West. The Rockies and Braves (43-56) play the finale of their three-game series on Sunday. Kyle Freeland (8-5) takes on Atlanta’s Sean Newcomb (1-2).
