A mini-heatwave enjoyed by many Brits is expected to come to an abrupt end, as heavy storms spread across parts of the UK. The Met Office warns the storms could cause flooding and disruption to travel. The forecaster says heavy rain and thunderstorms could see 2 inches of rain falling in 3 hours. In response they have issued two yellow thunderstorm warnings for Wednesday September 8 and Thursday September 9.

The warnings cover the whole of Northern Ireland and Wales and large parts of England.

All of Northern England is forecast to be affected stretching as far as Carlisle.

While further south the warning stretches from Cardiff right across England.

Birmingham, Manchester, Hull and Lincoln will be among the cities affected by the heavy rains and thunderstorms.
