Harry and Meghan fear Charles is easing them out of Royal Family, says expert

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are worried about being “eased out of the royal picture” altogether following the redesign of the Firm's website, an expert has claimed.

Long before he became king, Charles III spoke of his intention to “slim down” the Royal Family, and that process seems to have begun.

Prince Michael of Kent and his wife Marie-Christine, neither of whom are working royals, have been removed from the page entirely.

But the change that is more likely to hit the deadlines is the “demotion” of Harry and Meghan – who chose to "step back as senior members" of the Firm back in January 2020.

They have been relegated to the bottom of the Royal Family page, with only disgraced Prince Andrew below them.

Royal biographer Phil Dampier told The Sun: “Harry and Meghan must be worried that they are slowly being eased out of the royal picture.

"King Charles seems to be hesitating on whether to grant Prince and Princess titles to Archie and Lilibet, and the fact that they have been 'demoted' on the Palace website is another indicator that they are not seen as working royals.”

He says that the change in order is a sign that in the King’s mind Harry and Meghan are no longer working royals and “can’t pose as semi-official royals”.

A statement from Buckingham Palace suggested that officials there were still “working through updating the website” and there could be more changes to come.

In his book Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown, royal author Valentine Low quotes a palace source as saying that the late Queen was of the the view that the Sussexes either had to be completely real, or not at all.

“It was the Queen who took the view that unless the couple were prepared to abide by the restrictions that applied to working members of the royal family, they could not be allowed to carry out official duties,” he writes.

One source said: “There was a very clear view: you can’t be in and out. And if you’ve got such clarity of view, it’s very difficult to say, ‘Why don’t we go 10% this way instead of 20%?’ ”

Any form of compromise was “off the table, removed by the Queen."
