Girl, 8, snatched off streets and bundled into car found inside man’s sofa bed

An eight-year-old girl snatched off the streets and bundled into the boot of a car has been found hidden inside a sofa bed.

The 'deeply traumatised' youngster was discovered in a man's home by police 36 hours after she vanished in broad daylight.

She was hidden in the linen box of a sofa bed.

The girl, named Tanya, was described as “physically unharmed”.

A 36-year-old man has been detained by Russian Police who are investigating the man's motives in snatching the girl.

The handcuffed Russian suspect is shown in a disturbing law enforcement video.

He is alleged to have abducted the child in daylight on the street and forced her into the boot of his Chevrolet Cruze.

The girl was found a day and a half later after a massive search involving police and dozens of volunteers in the town of Neya, Kostroma region.

A police picture shows the child wrapped in a quilt on the sofa bed minutes after she was freed some 36 hours after she vanished.

She was in “acute stress” and required immediate psychological help after being freed.

The girl was taken to hospital and has been reunited with her family, say police.

In a video crime reenactment, the suspect used a mannequin to show detectives how he pushed the girl into the boot of his vehicle.

He abducted her as she walked home from school at lunchtime, say the Russian Investigative Committee.

He then drove her to his home.

Parents notified the police and the volunteer Liza Alert Search and Rescue squad which operates across Russian when children go missing.

The suspect has not been named.

For now he is detained for kidnapping a minor, a crime which has a punishment of five to 12 years.
