Doctors son taken away after police find she has dead kittens in her freezer

A California doctor is in trouble after it emerged that she had six dead kittens in her freezer along with over 20 live cats, five dogs and eight exotic birds living in “filthy” condition in her apartment.

Dr. Rebecca Darsey’s profile has been removed from her employers’ website after the disturbing allegations came to light.

Dr. Darsey’s 10-year-old son has been placed in care by California social services after he “was unable to sleep in his own room, due to it being used to house animals,” according to reports.

An eight-page police complaint on Dr. Darsey’s bizarre behaviour dates back to 2018.

The Yolo County District Attorney’s Office has said it will not be pursuing criminal charges in this case, reports CBS New York.

Detectives who searched Dr. Darsey’s property in 2019 said the home was chaotic, with “birdcages full of excrement, dog kennels with faeces in them, and three large cats running around on the counters of the kitchen.”

The California medial board mandated a psychiatric evaluation for Dr. Darsey. They found that the doctor “suffered from adjustment disorder with mixed anxiety disorder and depressed mood.”

They discovered that she had been prescribing her own treatment. The report said that she was “self-prescribing prednisone, Effexor, and Maxalt, and did not have a primary care provider that was monitoring her medical conditions.”

While the psychiatrist didn’t think that Dr. Darsey’s condition didn’t represent a threat to public health, “there is a risk that it could in the future.”

Her employers, Kaiser Permanente in Vacaville, California, issued a statement saying that she was not currently working for them: “Dr. Darsey is not currently seeing patients or providing services to Kaiser Permanente members,” the statement read.

“Out of respect for privacy and because this is a personnel matter, we cannot provide any additional information.”

Unless it is renewed in the coming couple of months, Dr. Darsey’s medical license is set to expire at the end of the year.
