A dad headbutted his daughter's headteacher after he was asked to pick her up from school because she had been swearing at members of staff.

The girl's parents were called in to pick up their child but when her mum began speaking to head, suddenly Shaun Pattyson lost his cool before butting and punching him.

The 27-year-old has since appeared in court, which heard how the man "squared up" to headteacher Robert Swindells before assaulting him.

His daughter had been causing trouble in school for some time, the court heard, including swearing at teachers during lessons.

Prosecutor Emma Thompson said Mr Swindells had worked at Chesterton Community Sports College school in Stoke-on-Trent for 25 years, 10 of which as headteacher, reported StokeonTrentLive.

She told the hearing that the school had been experiencing problems with the child and the decision was made to call her parents in on May 9.

Miss Thompson said: "The headteacher had a conversation with the child's mum on the phone and she said she would come immediately to collect the child. The child went to the front entrance and began being rude.

"The defendant appeared and squared up to the headteacher. The headteacher could not remember what he said to him, but the defendant was swearing at him before headbutting him. It connected with the right side of his face just below his right eye."

Thompson described how the teacher fell to the floor from the headbutt before the defendant kicked and punched him on the ground.

When interview by police, Pattyson came clean and admitted what happened, confirming it was him when shown CCTV.

Thompson said Pattyson had acted as he "believed the teacher was a bully".

Pattyson, of Brewester Road, Bucknall, Staffordshire, admitted common assault in court and will be sentenced on October 25.

Declining the services of a lawyer, Pattyson represented himself and said: "I'll admit to headbutting him, because I did. I admit to punching him. I did not kick him. If this is on CCTV, show it to prove I did not kick him."

He has since been bailed ahead of his sentencing in North Staffordshire Justice Centre.
