Local news outlets have identified the religious leaders as local pastor Makenzie Nthenge who allegedly previously had parents kill their newborns.

He works for the ironically named Good News international church.

The discovery was made after one member of the group, named in Kenyan media as Karume Fondo, managed to flee the site and call police.

According to TUKO news, a police reports states: “On April 13 2023 intelligence report was submitted to Sub-County Criminal Investigation Officers (SCCIO) Malindi by one Karume Fondo. “He further alleged that there is a mass shallow grave of victims of that brainwashing totaling to 31 bodies in an unidentified place at Shakahola Forest within Langobaya in Malindi sub county.”

When police arrived they found four dead bodies and several others in poor condition.

It was also confirmed that another mass grave is located somewhere in the area, with a search taking place today to find it.

A police spokesman said: “Medics from Malindi were called in to assist in evacuation but sadly, four of them died during the rescue operation.”

It is not known exactly how many people fled to the forest, but witnesses claimed that young children were part of the group.

The pastor had already been arrested once this month, but is now on the run after being freed on bond and not being found on site when police arrived.

It has also been claimed that the pastor had once brainwashed two parents into killing their own children as it would make them “heroes” in the eyes of God.

The children, believed to be babies, were then placed in a shallow grave.
