Blackpool Tower evacuated after smoke seen inside as fire crews scrambled

Blackpool Tower has been evacuated after "smoke was seen inside" the building this morning.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of smoke at around 10.20am after an alarm went off inside the landmark, reports Manchester Evening News.

Pictures from the scene showed tourists who had been evacuated on the promenade earlier today.

It has been confirmed that firefighters are currently at the scene. There has been no injuries at this time.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "We have six fire engines and an aerial ladder platform at the base of Blackpool Tower following reports of smoke in the building.

"There has been a full evacuation, no injuries have been reported and we are investigating where the smoke came from."

A cause is yet to be established and an investigation has been launched.

The popular tourist attraction is currently hosting the Blackpool Illuminations until early next year.
