A female bank robber involved in an airport shootout once told police she was "God's prophet" and married to rapper Chris Brown.

Portia Odufuwa, 37, fired a gun at the ceiling of Love Field Airport in Dallas, Texas, on Monday (July 25), bringing travel to a standstill as the terminal was evacuated.

It is not clear what her motivations were but one witness told NBC 5 that she made an announcement about her husband cheating before firing 12 rounds.

Another witness wrote on social media: "A group of people were running and yelling 'run' and we all immediately took cover. Nothing has been communicated to us.

"Everything seems to be calm now. It was most certainly a scary experience for all."

Police shot Odufuwa in the lower body. She was rushed to hospital and no one else was injured in the chaos.

It later emerged that she was well known to the police with a criminal career ranging from trespassing to arson.

In April 2019 she tried to rob a branch of Bank of America in the city of Wylie, before being caught by police as she tried to run away.

According to The Dallas Morning News, the case was dismissed after Odufuwa was deemed mentally incompetent to stand trial.

She underwent both inpatient and outpatient treatment, and six months later was found watching a house burn down in Mesquite, later admitting to police she was "responsible".

Asked why she did it, she said: "I am God's prophet, and I need an attorney, but I'm basically letting you all know that I am the cause of this fire."

It transpired that she used to live there and had tried to burn it down on several occasions.

She also told police she wouldn't speak with them until she'd spoken to her husband, Chris Brown.

That case was also dismissed, for lack of scientific evidence.

She would later give the rapper's address as her own when arrested in April last year after pulling a hotel fire alarm in anger.

Again, she was found incompetent to stand trial and the case was dismissed.
