The bloc announced 2022 will be the “European Year of Youth”, to encourage young people to shape the bloc’s future. Following the announcement of the programme and its associated initiatives, which are expected to get the go-ahead from MEPs in an EU plenary today, former Brexit Party MEP, Ben Habib, accused the bloc of attempting to coerce the younger generation into its ideals. In a savage attack against Brussels, Mr Habib also accused the bloc of being a “propaganda machine”.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Mr Habib said: “Absolute EU brainwashing.

“Designed to convey an image of an institution that cares about the youth.

“Seeking to ingratiate themselves with the young.

“The EU is one thing if nothing else, a first-class propaganda machine.

“It knows that to succeed in enforcing its will, it first must subdue would-be critics.

“The truth matters not; only the narrative.”

The initiatives developed under the “European Year of Youth” will give young Europeans the opportunity to gain knowledge, skills and to strengthen their engagement in the bloc’s future.

It will also be underpinned by four main objectives: to renew the positive perspectives for young people, to make them more active and engaged young citizens, to mainstream youth policy, and to acquire a better understanding of, and actively promote the various opportunities available to them.

“The budget dedicated to this European Year will support our flagship actions.

“We owe it to the generations who suffered most in the pandemic and now need to take back their lives.”
