Pupils across the country will be taught about the Coronation to ensure they understand the significance of Saturday’s historic event.
The Department for Education has prepared lesson plans for primary and secondary schools along with a range of teaching materials.
They cover the history and symbolism of items children will see during the Coronation including crowns to be worn by the King and Queen, the Coronation Chair, and the monarch’s orb and sceptre.
Resources produced by history teachers also explain the importance of holy oil that will be poured onto a golden spoon and used to anoint the King during the ceremony.
Material available online for schools includes a quiz, a timeline of coronations across history and a map of Westminster Abbey.
Charity Living Paintings has produced a pack of audio and tactile resources for teachers to ensure children who are blind or partially sighted have the same opportunities to learn about the Coronation.
Schools Minister Nick Gibb said: “These resources not only celebrate the Coronation, but also ensure young people understand its significance, as well the role of the monarchy within our constitution.”
